Rectoly reads, annotates and syncs the papers in a Mendeley or Zotero library on iPad, iPhone, Mac, Windows, Linux and Android. It is a one-time purchase with no subscription. This page collects what a procurement, IT or library reviewer usually asks before an institution buys it.
We reply within two business days (weekdays, Japan time).
Two separate products, each a one-time purchase for one person.
Each is a one-time purchase for one person. Buying one does not unlock the other.
Every feature is free for 14 days. The trial never turns into a charge; the purchase is a deliberate step.
A purchase is tied to the person's Mendeley or Zotero account (up to three accounts of the same product) and unlocks iPad, iPhone, Mac, Windows, Linux and Android.
Updates are included. There is nothing to budget for next year.
Papers, notes and handwriting stay on the device. The rows below say what, if anything, leaves it.
| Task | Where | What leaves the device |
|---|---|---|
| Reading, annotating, handwriting | On the device | Nothing to us. Documents and annotations sync with the user's own Mendeley or Zotero account. |
| Translating a paper | On the device. The model (about 2.5 GB) is downloaded once from dl.rectoly.com. | Paragraph text is never sent to us or to any translation service. |
| AI notes and paper cards | On the device, with the same model as translation | Neither papers nor notes. Text goes to an outside AI only when the user adds their own API key and chooses to. |
| Sign-in | Directly with the Mendeley or Zotero API; our server only relays the token exchange | Tokens are neither stored nor logged by us. |
| License check | Our server on Google Cloud (Tokyo region) | The account ID and the purchase record. |
| Crash reports, usage signals | Sentry, TelemetryDeck | Can be switched off in Settings. Never paper content. |
| Diagnostic bundle | Only when the user presses Send; kept 30 days on our server (Google Cloud, Japan) | No paper text and no annotations. |

Who sells, who issues the invoice, and what a Japanese institution needs for the tax credit.
Purchases on this website (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android) are sold by Paddle.com Market Ltd as Merchant of Record. Enter the institution's name, address and tax number at checkout; the invoice and receipt are issued in that name and emailed as a PDF. The details can be corrected once after purchase.
For buyers in Japan, 10% consumption tax is added. The qualified invoice under Japan's invoice system is issued by Paddle, registration number T3700150086889 (PADDLE.COM MARKET LIMITED on the National Tax Agency's register, registered October 1, 2023).
The iPad and iPhone versions, and the Mac version on the App Store, are sold by Apple, which issues the receipt. A seat bought on this website unlocks them too, because a purchase is tied to the account, not the device.
For one or two people it is quickest to buy at the checkout and enter the institution's billing details there. For a quote, a purchase order or one invoice covering several people, write to us.
